Fall Term 2012

AUGUST

1 Wednesday. Deadline for M.A. students to apply or reapply for degrees or certificates to be awarded in October.
24 Friday. International Student Orientation for new students (sponsored by the International Students and Scholars Office).
27–31 Monday–Friday. Registration, including payment of fees. Students who register after these dates must pay a late fee.
28 Tuesday. Orientation for entering students in an Arts and Sciences program.

SEPTEMBER

3 Monday. Labor Day. University holiday.
4 Tuesday. Classes begin for the fall semester.
4–7, 10–14 Tuesday–Friday, Monday–Friday. Late registration and change of program.
14 Friday. Last day to make registration changes (add/drop courses) for the fall term. Courses officially dropped by this date do not incur tuition charges.
30 Sunday. Last day to enroll in, or request a waiver of, the Student Medical Insurance Plan.

OCTOBER

9 Tuesday. Last day to drop individual courses. Courses dropped by this deadline are charged at full tuition but do not appear on a student's transcript.
12 Friday. Last day for the department or program to submit the M.Phil. application for October degree conferral.
17 Wednesday. October degrees conferred.

NOVEMBER

1 Thursday. Deadline for M.A. students to apply or reapply for degrees or certificates to be awarded in February.
5 Monday. Academic holiday. University offices are open, but classes are not in session.
6 Tuesday. Election Day. University holiday.
12-16  Monday-Friday. Early registration for the Spring 2013 semester.
15 Thursday.
  • Last day to exercise Pass/Fail option.
  • Last day to file to take a course for R credit

Note: Decisions to take a particular course Pass/Fail or for R credit are not reversible after this date.

22-25 Thursday–Sunday. Thanksgiving holidays. University holidays 11/22 and 11/23.

DECEMBER

1 Saturday*. Deadline for M.A. students to apply or reapply for degrees or certificates to be awarded in May.
3 Monday. Deadline for students with Incompletes from the Fall 2011 semester to submit outstanding work.
10 Monday. Last day of fall-term classes.
11-13 Tuesday-Thursday. Study days.
14–21 Friday–Friday. Final examinations.
21 Friday. Fall term ends.
22-1/21 Saturday, through Monday, January 21, 2013. Winter holidays.

Spring Term 2013

JANUARY

14–18 Monday–Friday. Registration, including payment of fees. Students who register after these dates must pay a late fee.
21 Monday. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day observed. University holiday.
22 Tuesday. Classes begin for the spring semester.
22-25, 28-2/1 Tuesday–Friday, Monday–Friday. Late registration and change of program.

FEBRUARY

1 Friday.
  • Last day to make registration changes (add/drop courses) for the spring term. Courses officially dropped by this date do not incur tuition charges.
  • Last day to enroll in, or request a waiver of, the Student Medical Insurance Plan.
  • Last day for the department or program to submit the M.Phil. application for February degree conferral.
13 Wednesday. February degrees conferred.

MARCH

18-22 Monday–Friday. Spring break.
28 Thursday.

MAY

1 Wednesday. Deadline for students with Incompletes from the Spring 2012 semester to submit outstanding work.
6 Monday. Last day of spring-term classes.
7-9 Tuesday–Thursday. Study days.
10-17 Friday–Friday. Final examinations.

Friday.

  • Spring term ends.
  • Last day to complete a dissertation deposit for the May conferral. Due to printing deadlines, students whose deposits are completed after the May 10 deadline will not be listed in the Convocation Booklet or in the addendum.
19 Sunday. Master's and Doctoral Convocation Ceremonies.
22 Wednesday. University Commencement.
27 Monday. Memorial Day. University holiday.
