Doctoral Student Housing

Columbia University owns and directly manages approximately 5,700 residential units in 143 buildings in the immediate vicinity of the Morningside Heights campus, and about 600 units in the vicinity of the Health Sciences campus in Washington Heights. Some of these units are available to graduate students through University Apartment Housing (UAH), though supply is limited.

Doctoral students are limited to five consecutive years in student housing, starting from their first date of registration and subject to 1) their applying for housing by the deadline specified in the acceptance letter; 2) their remaining registered and in good standing in their program. Doctoral students may request an additional one or two years for a maximum of seven years. Any extension beyond the fifth year must be approved by GSAS.

Doctoral students with advanced standing are guaranteed continuous placement in Columbia housing for four years from the first date of registration or the duration of their program, whichever is shorter, subject to the same conditions.

In all cases, student housing agreements terminate on May 31.

To apply for housing, complete the application on the UAH website. For your sign-up code and PID number, please refer to your acceptance letter.
