The information below offers an overview of what you will need to participate in the 2014 graduation ceremonies.
- University Commencement – Wednesday, May 21, 2014
In order to participate in the Convocation and Commencement ceremonies, all students must wear academic regalia (caps and gowns). Regalia may be obtained through the Columbia University Bookstore in Lerner Hall, 2922 Broadway, New York, NY 10027. For more information, see this announcement on the Bookstore website or call the Bookstore's Regalia Hotline at (212) 854-6145.
For those not in the NYC area, the bookstore will accept orders by mail or email, and will ship via UPS from April through the beginning of May. See the "Order Forms" section of this announcement.
Ph.D. students: Late fees will apply to regalia orders placed after Monday, March 31. The last day to order custom regalia with guaranteed delivery by Commencement is Monday, April 14.
M.A. students: Master's regalia may be purchased in the Columbia University Bookstore up until the day of the Master's Convocation Ceremony.
Graduates must fill out and bring their Name Cards to Convocation. Graduates present their Name Cards to the reader so their names can be announced as they cross the stage. Professional photographers who are photographing the students then use these Name Cards to correctly identify the student in each photograph.
Each student will receive a Name Card in the mail in March. It will be sent to the address to which you requested (via SSOL) that your diploma be mailed. If you are not yet living at that address, please ask someone at that address to forward the Name Card to you.
Following the graduation ceremonies, diplomas for May graduates will be mailed to the address on file in the "Diploma Address" section of the "Addresses: View and Update" page in SSOL. It will take several weeks to complete the mailing of all diplomas; consequently, please provide an address that will be valid for the duration of the summer. If no address is on file, your diploma will not be mailed out.
You may update your "Diploma Address" in SSOL until Monday, May 19; after May 19, you may email firstname.lastname@example.org with your updated address.
