Information for Admitted International Students

Consult the text below, as well as the steps outlined on the Admitted Students page, for essential information about beginning your studies at Columbia.

Visas

International students who require an F or J student visa must apply for a Form I-20 or Form DS-2019 Certificate of Eligibility (COE) from the International Students and Scholars Office (ISSO). Find more information about the application process on the Applying for Your I-20/DS-2019 page of the ISSO website.

International Student and Scholars Office (ISSO)

The ISSO serves the more than 15,000 international students, scholars, interns, and family members in the Columbia community, and provides advisory and documentation services and information on visas, employment travel, and tax-filing obligations. The ISSO is a reliable source of information about the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and Department of State (DOS) regulations that govern students studying in the United States.
