At Columbia University's Graduate School of Arts and Sciences, our Master of Arts (MA) programs invites students to deepen their expertise, broaden their perspectives, and pursue their academic and professional goals. Whether you are preparing for doctoral study, advancing your career, or pursuing a lifelong intellectual passion, you'll join a vibrant academic community committed to discovery, innovation, and meaningful impact.

At Columbia, students join a rigorous intellectual community, working closely with distinguished faculty and engaging in research and scholarship across disciplines, while drawing on the extraordinary resources of New York City.

The departments and programs listed below offer courses of study leading to the Master of Arts (MA) degree. Many also offer the Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree. Applicants whose goal is to earn both the MA and PhD should apply directly to the PhD program when that option is available.
