Students in the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences are represented by two councils, both of which facilitate communication between graduate students and the Columbia administration through meetings with Carlos J. Alonso, Dean of GSAS and Vice President for Graduate Education:
- The Arts and Sciences Graduate Council (ASGC) consists of student-elected representatives from doctoral and master’s programs in the Arts and Sciences. AGSC organizes and sponsors social, cultural, and academic events to improve the quality of life for graduate students and to foster student interaction across disciplines. ASGC also provides travel grants to support students who are presenting at conferences.
- The PhD Council (PhDC) is composed of student-elected representatives from the eleven Columbia graduate schools that administer doctoral programs. Representatives advocate on behalf of doctoral students across the university.
ASGC and PhDC formed in April 2018, replacing the Graduate Student Advisory Council (GSAC) in an effort to improve graduate student representation. More information will be available soon on the forthcoming ASGC and PhDC websites.
