Boren Fellowships

Application deadline: January 21, 2026 at 5:00 pm ET. There is no campus review process for Boren applications. Please submit directly to Boren by the posted deadline.
Eligibility: MA and PhD candidates who are studying less commonly taught languages in world regions critical to US interests, and underrepresented in study abroad, including Africa, Asia, Central and Eastern Europe, Eurasia, Latin America, and the Middle East

Chateaubriand Fellowship

Eligibility: PhD candidates in STEM, humanities, and social sciences disciplines who plan to conduct dissertation research in France for four to nine months

Congressional Research Grants

Application deadline: Applications are accepted throughout the year
Eligibility: Students with a serious interest in studying Congress; a significant portion of the funds is awarded for PhD dissertation research

CPRIT TRIUMPH Postdoctoral Fellowship

There will be four annual application cycle deadlines for 2026: March 31, 2026; June 30, 2026; September 30, 2026; December 31, 2026.
Eligibility: PhD candidates interested in cancer research who will have completed the degree by the start of the program and who have published at least one first-author paper in a top-tier journal

DAAD (German Academic Exchange Service) Scholarships and Grants

Internal application deadline: Friday, October 24, 2025 (for campus endorsement consideration)
DAAD Application deadline: October 31, 2025
Eligibility: DAAD provides financial support to highly qualified students for study and research in Germany. Opportunities include study scholarships (for a 10-month period) and research grants (for short- and long-term periods).

Damodhar Masram Excellence Scholarship

Application deadline: May 2, 2025
Eligibility: First-generation immigrant students with a STEM bachelor's degree, pursuing a STEM-related graduate program, with relevant experience in technology or digital technology. A focus on blockchain or digital technology is advantageous but not required.

Department of Energy Computational Science Graduate Fellowships

Application deadline: January 15, 2026 at 5:00 pm    
Eligibility: First-year PhD candidates in engineering, physical, mathematical, computer or life sciences with a focus on high-performance computing are eligible

Department of Energy National Nuclear Security Administration Laboratory Residency Graduate Fellowship

Eligibility: U.S. citizens pursuing a PhD with at least 18 months remaining as of the fellowship start; fields of interest include engineering & applied sciences, physics, materials, and mathematics/computational science
 

Department of Energy National Nuclear Security Administration Stewardship Science Graduate Fellowship

Application deadline: January 13, 2026 at 5:00 pm CST
Eligibility: PhD students working in areas of interest to stewardship science, such as properties of materials under extreme conditions and hydrodynamics, nuclear science, or high-energy density physics

DOE Office of Science Graduate Student Research (SCGSR) Program

Application deadline: May 6, 2026
Eligibility: PhD candidates in physics, chemistry, material sciences, biology (non-medical), mathematics, engineering, or computer or computational sciences who are at work on the dissertation

Dolores Zohrab Liebmann Fellowships

Columbia internal application deadline: Friday, January 5, 2026 at 5:00 p.m. EST. GSAS will send the application by email to eligible students.

The Dolores Zohrab Liebmann Fund is available for students pursuing graduate-level programs in the study of the humanities, social sciences or natural sciences (including law, medicine, engineering, architecture or other formal professional training).

Eligibility: Continuing MA and PhD candidates who are US citizens in all fields of study that demonstrate financial need.

Ford Foundation Fellowships

French Institutes for Advanced Study Fellowship

Application deadline: June 25, 2026
Eligibility: Researchers with a doctoral degree plus 2 years of full-time research experience after the degree
FIAS-FP is an international mobility program that offers high-level scientific residencies in the seven IAS of Aix-Marseille, Cergy, Loire Valley (Orléans-Tours), Lyon, Montpellier, Nantes, and Paris. The standard duration of the residential fellowship is of 10 months over an academic year i.e. from September through June. The FIAS Fellowship Programme supports high-quality innovative research as resident fellows conduct their project with the greatest academic freedom and benefit from the stimulating scientific and extra-academic support provided by the host institutes.

GSAS International Travel Fellowships

Hebrew Free Loan Society

Application deadline: May 31, 2026
The Hebrew Free Loan Society administers three scholarship programs for the UJA-Federation of New York. This program provides approximately $1 million to students with financial need, primarily in New York City, Long Island, or Westchester. Horowitz Foundation for Social Policy Grants

Interschool Fellowships at Columbia 

Columbia internal deadline: June 30, 2026

Interschool fellowships are generally need-based awards available to students across various Columbia schools and colleges. The amount awarded may vary. To begin the application process, students must complete an online form and select the fellowship that best suits their needs.  For additional information on the types of awards available, please visit Student Financial Services webpage.

Eligibility: To receive these need-based awards, which range in amount from $1,000 to $5,000, students must be enrolled in an Arts and Sciences graduate program during the 2026-2027 academic year, and must meet the requirements of the relevant fellowship. The online application will include a list of all 2026-2027 fellowships and their respective requirements.

Lindt Dissertation Fellowship

Application deadline: March 4, 2026
Eligibility: PhD students in Anthropology, Economics, Political Science, or Sociology who will complete the dissertation by May 2024

Margaret McNamara Education Grants

Application deadline: January 15, 2026 for US-Canada program
Eligibility: PhD and MA candidates who self-identify as women, and who are nationals of a country on the eligibility list.

Master's Scholarships

Application deadline: September 29, 2025 at 5:00 pm
Eligibility: MA students in enrolled in an Arts and Sciences graduate program during the 2025-2026 academic year may apply for two special scholarships available only to GSAS MA students. Must also meet the requirements of the relevant fellowship. Details on criteria and the application can be found here.

NAEd/Spencer Dissertation Fellowship 

Application deadline: Oct 2, 2025 – 5:00 pm ET
The Dissertation Fellowship seeks to encourage a new generation of scholars from a wide range of disciplines and professional fields to undertake research relevant to the improvement of education. These $27,500 fellowships support individuals whose dissertations show potential for bringing fresh and constructive perspectives to the history, theory, or practice of formal or informal education anywhere around the world. Fellows will attend professional development retreats and receive mentorship from NAEd members and other senior scholars in their field. This highly competitive program aims to identify the most talented emerging researchers conducting dissertation research related to education. The NAEd/Spencer Dissertation Fellowship will fund 35 promising scholars. 

NAEd/Spencer Postdoctoral Fellowship

Application deadline: Nov 13, 2025 – 5:00 pm ET
The Postdoctoral Fellowship supports early-career scholars working in critical areas of educational scholarship. Fellows will receive $70,000 for one academic year of research, or $35,000 for each of two contiguous years, working half-time. Fellows attend professional development retreats and receive mentorship from NAEd members and other senior scholars in their field. Applicants must have had their PhD, EdD, or equivalent research degree conferred between January 1, 2019, and December 31, 2023, to be eligible to apply this year. This fellowship is non-residential, and applications from all disciplines are encouraged. The NAEd/Spencer Postdoctoral Fellowship will fund 25 early-career researchers.

National Institute of Justice Graduate Research Fellowship (GRF) program

Application Deadline: Grants.gov deadline: May 19, 2026;  JustGrants deadline: May 27, 2026
Eligibility: Students enrolled full-time in a Ph.D. program in a science or engineering field and who propose a dissertation topic relevant to criminal or juvenile justice in the United States. Applications from all science and engineering fields are welcome.

National Defense Science and Engineering Graduate Fellowships

Application deadline: November 1
Eligibility: PhD candidates in the natural sciences
Department of Defense (DoD), through the Office of the Under Secretary for Research and Engineering and the military services, promotes education in science and engineering disciplines relevant to the Defense mission. The DoD plans to award new three-year graduate fellowships each fiscal year (subject to the availability of funds) to individuals who have demonstrated ability and special aptitude for advanced training in science and engineering.

Newcombe Doctoral Dissertation Fellowships

Application Deadline: November 1, every year
Eligibility: PhD Students in the humanities and social sciences, working on projects which have questions of religion, ethics, morals, or values as a central focus. Successful applicants will receive a stipend of $31,000 to assist them in completing the writing stage of their dissertation.

Obama Foundation Scholars Program

Application deadline: December 16, 2024
Eligibility: Scholars who have a proven commitment to service and leadership within a community, region, or country outside the United States, coupled with a demonstrated commitment to return to these communities following their completion of the program and apply their enhanced training, skills, and connections on a long-term basis for the benefit of these communities

Pat Tillman Scholars Program

Application deadline: February 1, 2026
Eligibility: U.S. active-duty service members, and current or surviving spouses of veterans or service members, who plan to be full-time students at an accredited U.S. institution in the upcoming academic year.

QUAD Fellowship by IIE

Application deadline: March 3rd, 2025
Eligibility: open to exceptional master's and doctoral students in science and technology who demonstrate academic excellence, exceptional results in their field, and a desire to use their talents to promote collective good. The fellowship, initiated by the Quad countries of Australia, India, Japan, and the United States, and administered by IIE, sponsors exceptional master's and doctoral students to study science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) in the United States. Successful applicants will receive a one-time stipend of $20,000 for academic expenses.

Sakıp Sabancı Center Summer Fellowships

Eligibility: Humanities and Social Science PhD students in years one through six who will conduct no less than one month of library, archival, or collection research in Turkey during the summer

Sakıp Sabancı Center for Turkish Studies Dissertation Fellowship

Teacher Trainer Programs & ETF Awards Program

Eligibility: Open to educators passionate about teaching and cross-cultural exchange. Opportunities include serving as teaching assistants in public elementary and junior high schools through the English Teaching Flagship (ETF) Program, or as English Teacher Trainer Award recipients mentoring Fulbright English Teaching Assistants (ETAs) and ETF participants while collaborating with local educators to strengthen bilingual (Chinese-English) education across Taiwan.

Trudeau Foundation Doctoral Scholarships

Eligibility: PhD candidates in years one through three of a humanities or social sciences program whose work relates to one of the foundation's four themes: Human Rights and Dignity; Responsible Citizenship; Canada and the World; or People and their Natural Environment

UNESCO Juan Bosch Prize for the Promotion of Social Science Research in Latin America and the Caribbean

Application deadline: February 2026
Eligibility: Young social science researchers whose work contributes to the development of public policies that promote social development in Latin America and the Caribbean. The Prize, named after Dominican writer, politician, and social thinker Juan Bosch, recognizes outstanding research on social development policies that strengthen regional cooperation and address contemporary social challenges.

Zuckerman Dissertation Fellowship

Application deadline: March 4, 2026
Eligibility: PhD students in History, Philosophy, or Sociology who will complete the dissertation by May 2025
